The Marathon Project

Mary’s Soccer Weekend

This weekend I had a soccer game with my co-ed team on Friday. We won 4-1, and while I didn’t score, I played really well and contributed to setting up most of the goals. My favorite play of the game came just after the other team had tied the score 1-1. The players on the other team were grumbling all game about the referee’s calls, and also kept trying to make calls for the ref (calling offsides, etc.) One dude in particular was grumbling a lot, so I told him his perspective wasn’t necessary. I let him know the referee could handle the job, and he didn’t need to chime in =)

The dude snapped back at me about something or another.

WELL. He then got a pass back to him from one of his players. I sprinted forward and stole the ball from him. He was the last defender, so I laid the ball off to my teammate who blasted it in the back of the net. PERFECT. I think I winked at the trash-talking dude when I was jogging back to reset. He immediately subbed himself out. hahah.

This was one of the better teams in the league, so it was a great overall win. I got a decent workout in, too, since I played the whole game (only 3 females, so we all had to play the full game…pretty standard on that team).

The next morning I woke up at 7:45 for pickup soccer. I met a handful of my teammates at the field, and we played pickup with a bunch of dudes who meet up on Saturday mornings to play. I love playing pickup because I get to learn the mannerisms and habits of my teammates in a more casual environment than games.

I was going to go for a run on Sunday (and this morning) but both times opted to sit it out. On Sunday, the day kind of ran away from me, and this morning I just really didn’t feel like getting out of bed. Hah. I figured I’d run this evening as a substitute. We will see how that goes.

In other news, something fun came in the mail for me today!

Except I will be using my ice pack on my foot instead of my head!

I just was really not trying to lift my foot up here at work, since I’m wearing a dress and all today.

Here’s the thing: I am so bothered by icing my injuries that I often opt not to ice rather than taking care of myself. In the past, it’s never really been a problem, but I’ve also never had an injury linger so long either.

Since I hate icing, I thought I’d try to make it fun! So rather than package my ice in plastic baggies wrapped in towels, I ordered this cute reusable ice pack. Maybe now I’ll ice just because it’s so stylish. What do you think?

Game on friendskis.
