Mary’s Last Post (of the night)
So here’s the dealio on my three miler….
I ran the first mile (remember: 8 laps + 5 paces) in 6:58.
I slowed down a bit for mile 2, but still finished the 8 laps in 7 and a half minutes (pretty much on the dot).
Now, for mile three, I didn’t slow down, and even picked up the pace a bit from mile two. I wasn’t running faster than mile one, but did sprint for the last 1/8 mile (full out sprint). So it wouldn’t make sense that I’d finish mile 3 in eight minutes.
Also, I know where the miscounted occurred. It was during mile three, after I’d run two laps, and was coming in on my third. I’d lost count because I had two almost collisions in that lap, and lost concentration in counting (normally I literally count on my fingers while running, but for the first couple laps of the mile I didn’t think I’d mess up the count). Regardless, even though I was fairly sure I’d done three at this point, I counted it as two, just to be safe. Now that I look back on the splits, I’m fairly certain I ran 3 1/8 miles.
In fact, I’m absolutely positive I over-ran (sorry to be so adamant, but I’m very familiar with gauging pacing). Unfortunately I didn’t peep my watch before my last lap, so no clue what my real time is….prob about 30 seconds faster.
Sorry to get so onto this….I was really excited to time my run since I didn’t get to yesterday.
In any event, I figured that 3 miles in 22:26 comes to 7:25 mile splits which is not bad.
