Mary’s Morning Trot and Weekend Notes
I love running on Mondays. It just feels like the right start to my week.
I was considering a run on Sunday, but first had some errands I needed to get to. One thing turned into another, and before I knew it, guests were arriving to our house for a barbecue. So that put the kabosh on a Sunday run. My body has been sore all over since my soccer game Saturday, and I’ve always felt one of the best remedies for sore muscles is a slow, relaxing run and stretch. You know, to loosen things up. Since I missed the mark running on Sunday, last night I decided I would most definitely make it my mission to go for a run this morning.
Mission accomplished.
It wasn’t anything crazy, just two miles of running at a ten minute per mile pace, but the entire run was on hills. And not just any hills. Pretty extreme, steep hills. I went uphill slow and downhill even slower. It was perfect. Then I stretched it out for a few minutes and did some situps.
Over the weekend, I had a 7 v 7 coed soccer game scheduled for Friday that got cancelled because the other team needed to forfeit. Even though we found out last minute, we managed to collect a group of friends to come out to the field to kick the ball around. Once there, we happened upon some other people we knew, and some randoms who had just finished a game of their own, and invited them to play pickup. It ended up being a really good game, and probably more fun than our actual league game would have been.
The next morning, I had an 8:30 a.m. game with my 11 v 11 soccer team. Even though it was early, it was still hot as heck. Additionally, we only had 10 players show up to play, so we had to play down a man. 15 minutes into the game, one of our defenders pulled a muscle and had to sit out for the rest of the game, and then at half time, our sweeper had to leave. So by the end of the game, we were down to 8 players vs. the other team’s 11. I was playing outside midfield, and played a little sweeper in the second half, so to say I got a good workout in would be a severe understatement. It’s too bad we didn’t have more players because we totally could have pulled off a win (even with 9 I think we could have done it). We were tied with our opponents at halftime (1-1), but then they managed to sneak in a goal midway through the second half. We continued to hold them off until the final ten minutes of the game, when they scored a couple more goals (which we conceded basically due to exhaustion).
Hopefully I’ll be back soon with more runs to report!
